COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT

Isabel Henderson Kindergarten is a stand-alone, not-for-profit community kindergarten which is governed by a committee of management. The committee is made up of parents, guardians and association members who act as volunteers to support the Director with the running of the centre.

The committee is responsible for overseeing major financial, strategic and policy decisions and procedures, including the hiring of the Director who reports directly to committee.  The day-to-day decisions relating to enrolments, administration, staffing, curriculum and service delivery are made by the Director, who is supported by the Educational Leader.

The kindergarten relies on the valued and integral role that committee plays, to be able to operate. Without an active and engaged committee run by parent volunteers, the kindergarten is unable to operate or maintain the high quality program and governance that it currently provides. As a community kindergarten, we encourage families to consider joining the committee, to ensure that the kindergarten is representative of the diverse voices, needs and perspectives of families, and local community. Committee and the Director meet once a month on a Tuesday evening at a local hospitality venue from 7pm until 9pm. All members have an opportunity to contribute to the agenda and have voting rights on matters that are committee responsibility. 

It is important that families enrolling at IHK understand the importance of parent participation and opportunities for volunteering in some capacity. This maintains the integrity of the long history of the service as a charitable, non-for-profit community kindergarten, but also ensures we can continue to run independently ie rather than ownership from large corporations or private enterprise.
