About us

Isabel Henderson Kindergarten has been in operation since 1913 and is a high quality kindergarten provider.
IHK provides a range of carefully planned play-based programs reflective of the National Early Years Learning Framework and of the five learning and development outcomes:
  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators
We believe kindergarten is preparation for life and it is this belief that inspires us to provide children with the highest quality of education possible.

Isabel Henderson Kindergarten celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013. The kindergarten began in 1913 as the Fitzroy Mission Kindergarten at the corner of Young and Leicester Streets, in what was then a poor and overcrowded suburb. Today the kindergarten is a vibrant and well resourced centre in North Fitzroy running long day kindergarten programmes for 3 to 5 year olds. There are many interesting stories to tell of the kindergartenʼs evolvement over the last 100 years and we have an exciting future to look forward to.
